The Canadian Show Jumping Team is preparing to represent the maple leaf at the Premier Equestrian CSIO 4* Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), taking place March 2-6, 2022 in Wellington, FL.

Erynn Ballard, Tiffany Foster, Amy Millar and Beth Underhill will form the Canadian Show Jumping Team for the $150,000 CSIO 4* Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Nations’ Cup on Saturday, March 5. In addition, Mac Cone and Jacqueline Steffens will represent Canada as individuals in the CSIO 4* division and serve as alternates to the team. It marks the first time that newly appointed Jumping Technical Advisor, Eric Lamaze, will act as Chef d’Equipe. “I am very excited to lead the all-female team competing this week and looking forward to the year ahead, culminating at the World Championships,” said Lamaze.

“In my new position as EC’s Technical Advisor, I have had a short amount of time to prepare for our first Nations’ Cup in Wellington,” said Lamaze, who will be supporting the team along with Team Manager Karen Hendry-Ouellette. “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the High Performance Advisory Group, sharing, and discussing openly our opinions regarding the athletes and horses that were chosen to represent Team Canada. I look forward to our continued collaboration while choosing the future teams.”

Along with Canada, a total of 12 teams will contest for the Nations’ Cup including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela. The event will take place in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center (PBIEC) with the first round starting at 4:30pm EST and second to follow at 7pm EST.

Nations’ Cup classes are the only type of jumping competitions where riders compete in teams of four and face off against other countries. To determine overall team scores, the top three scores from each team are counted toward the final result of the two-round competition.

In the eighth week of top-class international competition, the CSIO 4* WEF is part of a 12-week series that takes place annually in Florida and attracts top athletes from around the world.
