Ottawa, Ontario—The Canadian Eventing Committee has announced the establishment of a Canadian Eventing Hall of Fame. The inaugural Gala and Induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto, ON.

The Hall of Fame will recognize horses, riders, officials, organizers, sponsors and volunteers who have contributed to and made an impact on the sport since its inception in Canada.

Eventing in Canada dates back to the early 1950s and at the 1956 Olympic Games, a team bronze medal was won by the first eventing team fielded by Canada. The team consisted of John Rumble on Cilroy, James Elder on Colleen and Brian Herbinson aboard Tara. James “Jimmy” Elder went on to win a team gold medal in show jumping at the 1968 Olympics Games.
