you're listening to an article from horse sport.com. canadian eventing hall of fame. ottawa, ontario—the canadian eventing committee has announced the establishment of a canadian eventing hall of fame. the inaugural gala and induction ceremony will be held on saturday, november 7, 2009, at the metropolitan hotel in toronto, on. the hall of fame will recognize horses, riders, officials, organizers, sponsors and volunteers who have contributed to and made an impact on the sport since its inception in canada. eventing in canada dates back to the early 1950s and at the 1956 olympic games, a team bronze medal was won by the first eventing team fielded by canada. the team consisted of john rumble on cilroy, james elder on colleen and brian herbinson aboard tara. james “jimmy” elder went on to win a team gold medal in show jumping at the 1968 olympics games. advertisement scroll to continue with content “many people currently involved with eventing are not aware of historic roots of the sport in this country,” said peggy hambly, chair of the canadian eventing committee. “we felt that it would be appropriate to start recognizing some of our past achievements and reconnecting with the foundations of eventing in canada. this is an important time in the history and development of the sport, and the hall of fame initiative is a perfect way to highlight some of our successes and contributors”. nomination guidelines are posted on the equine canada website and a call for submissions is open to anyone from across the country. submissions must be made before august 31, 2009 and the first inductees will be announced september 15, 2009. for the nomination guidelines, please visit the eventing section of the equine canada website at for ticketing information, e-mail eventing@equinecanada.ca or call 604-880-3516.
