As previously reported, Paul Côté has resigned from his position as executive director of the WEG 2018 Organizing Committee (COJEM 2018). His appointment as head of Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) in Montreal was announced last week.
Cote was chair of the Bromont Bid Committee and his was an integral part of the bid process. “His tireless and unwavering support was a key contributor leading to the FEI’s unanimous decision to award the Games to Canada,” read the Equine Canada press release issued just one year ago that announced his appointment as CEO.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the position might be filled by Luc Fournier, the former director of the Canada Summer Games. Before the Canada Games, Fournier was the executive director of the Centre universitaire des Appalaches, president and CEO of the Regroupement des évènements majeurs internationaux (RÉMI), and executive director of the Carnaval de Québec. A representative from COJEM 2018 wasn’t immediately available for comment.
It is the first time in the history of the World Equestrian games that this prestigious event will be held in Canada, and the second time outside the European continent. The 2018 WEG represent the biggest sporting event ever presented in Canada.
