Brian Moggre Wins Silo Ridge Grand Prix

The USA’s Brian Moggre and Vivre Le Reve won the first-ever $125,000 Silo Ridge 3* Grand Prix at the inaugural Silo Ridge Masters on Sunday, October 6. The Silo Ridge Masters debuted at the historic Keane Stud in Amenia, NY, with elite-level international show jumping as well as national classes starting at 1.05m, all in the stunning foothills of the Hudson Valley.

From a field that included 10 Olympians, four riders advanced their mounts to U.S. course designer Nick Granat’s tie-breaking jump-off. Setting the standard as the first clear in the opening round, Moggre, 23, and his 15-year-old Westphalian gelding (Ustinov x Chello II) owned by Major Wager, LLC, again led the way to not be caught.

“As a rider, I think it’s amazing to see the sport evolve. I’m a young rider, so to see everybody come together for a new event like this is inspiring,” said Moggre about his first impressions of the Silo Ridge Masters. “It makes you want to do your best, and I think it gives me confidence in myself and my riding.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be the first rider to win any grand prix, but especially at this fantastic show,” continued Moggre, who is currently training with fellow U.S. athlete and 5-time Olympic medalist Mclain Ward.

“Coming into the jump off with only four riders, it was the perfect opportunity to take a risk,” said Moggre, who accepted an exclusive timepiece from Chopard as winner of the Silo Ridge Masters. “I went over my plan with Mclain and knew the worst we could be is fourth. We determined what the winning track was, and it was a matter of executing it. Being first is always hard because everybody’s then trying to catch you. Luckily, today it was enough.”

Moggre has had the ride on his FEI World Cup™ Jumping mount for just shy of ten years and the pair have climbed the ranks together. “I know [Vivre Le Reve] like the back of my hand. He is a horse that I can always rely on and always continues to amaze and surprise me.

“It’s show jumping. Anything can happen, but he was on his A-game today,” concluded Moggre of the horse he affectionately calls Erkel. “He feels amazing. He’s 15 years old now, so any grand prix I get to jump with him is a great grand prix.

Moggre’s winning jump-off time was 33.18 seconds. Fellow U.S. rider Sloane Coles tested the speed of her mount Ninja JW van de Moerhoeve in the jump-off but couldn’t catch Moggre. She finished second in 33.89 seconds with the 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare (Elvis Ter Putte x Kashmir van Schuttershof) owned by The Ninja Group and accepted the Cara Cara Leading Lady Rider Award.

Irish Olympian Darragh Kenny piloted Rockstar to third and rounded out the podium with the fastest four-fault effort in 33.41 seconds. Rockstar, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion (E Star x C Carnute) is owned by Heathman Farm.

The top three athletes stood on the podium as the first ribbon winners of the Silo Ridge Grand Prix and concluded the day with a Moët & Chandon champagne spray.
