Blue Hors Matiné, the Grand Prix dressage mare was humanely destroyed after breaking her off foreleg in a paddock accident. The grey mare had won a silver medal in the Freestyle and a bronze in the Special at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen with Andreas Helgstrand of Denmark. She had been retired to the Blue Hors Stud since last August following a tendon injury sustained in a trailer loading accident at the Las Vegas World Cup in 2007. The 13 year-old by Blue Hors Silver Moon was in foal.
The YouTube video of Helgstrand and Matiné performing at the ’06 WEG has been watched nearly 10 million times – possibly one of the first “viral” horse videos on the internet.
