Ottawa, ON — For the second year in a row, Amy Millar of Perth, ON, has won the Jump Canada Series. The final event of the 2008 Jump Canada Series, the $100,000 Canadian Show Jumping Championships, was held November 7 and 8 during the CSI5*-W Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto, ON.
Finishing in sixth place in the $25,000 Canadian Championships Round 1 on November 7 and in third place in $75,000 Canadian Championships Round 2 with Costa Rica Z, a 13-year-old Holsteiner mare owned by Mathews and Millar Brooke Farm, Millar secured the overall title by topping the standings with a total 268.10 points. That put Millar 31.7 points ahead of second place finisher Erynn Ballard of Tottenham, ON.
With Costa Rica Z, Millar began the 2008 Jump Canada Series with a fifth place finish in the $50,000 Equestrian Management Group Grand Prix followed by a win in the $50,000 Grand Prix Jumping of Quebec at Blainville International Show Jumping Classic Week I riding Costa Rica Z. Millar’s victory in the John Deere Canada Cup Championships—Phase 2 with Costa Rica Z at the Tournament of Champions earned her 50 points and put her at the top of the leader board heading into the Royal.
“It is a great honour to win the Jump Canada Series award again this year,†said Millar. “It is a very valuable and useful tool in helping me achieve my goals as a rider.â€
Millar was presented with the prestigious Jump Canada trophy, generously donated by Barbara Anderson of Alberta, at the Royal Horse Show. For the second year in a row, Millar also received a $20,000 cash award, sponsored by Jump Canada, to be invested by the rider into a development program intended to support future elite performance.
The Jump Canada Series has proven successful in providing a national jumper circuit with high standards of competition across the country. At the end of the Jump Canada Series, overall standings are calculated using the best six results, plus the final event in the Jump Canada Series, the CN World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix at the CSI-W Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON.
Since its inception, the Jump Canada Series has recognized the achievements of such great horse-rider combinations as Beth Underhill and Altair (1999), Frankie Chesler and Ravenna Z (2000), Jill Henselwood and Toyzrus (2001), three-time champions Ainsley Vince and Catch 22 (2002, 2003, and 2004), Ian Millar and In Style (2005) and Margie Gayford and Stuntman (2006) and Amy Millar and Costa Rica Z (2007).
