On Saturday, June 14, The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair partnered with Don Mills Collegiate Institute for a truly special afternoon that celebrated the powerful connection between agriculture and education.
Set against the backdrop of DMCI’s greenhouses, gardens, and vineyard, the event marked the official unveiling of Rosie, our 2025 Royal Ambassador, and welcomed guests from across the city to meet her and other farm favourites. The Toronto Police Mounted Unit was also on hand, offering a memorable look at urban equine service. Student chefs, guided by the team at Oliver & Bonacini and The Royal’s Culinary Chair Michael Bonacini, prepared a stunning reception menu that showcased local ingredients and remarkable young talent.
Rosie is a six-year-old miniature donkey with a big personality and a loyal heart. She is the first donkey ever chosen as The Royal’s Animal Ambassador, and she is already winning hearts with her joyful brays, watchful nature, and strong bond with her big brother, Teddy.
She lives on a small farm in Oshawa with horses, ponies, chickens, and sheep. Her owner, Zuri Barnes, shared stories about Rosie’s daily life, her role as a barnyard guardian, and what makes her the perfect representative for this year’s Fair.
