While Victoria, B.C. Councillor Ben Isitt reinitiated the call for a ban of horse-drawn carriages on city streets, backlash has caused him to back down.

On November 4, 2018, officers from the Montreal SPCA responded to a call about a carriage horse who had collapsed and died in Old Montreal.

The B.C. SPCA wants horse-drawn carriages banned from Victoria streets, following an incident in May, in which two harnessed horses fell at Ogden Point.
