Welcome to the Caledon Equestrian Park and the Canadian Show Jumping Tournament. This walk will be an extra walk because this will be the first indoor walk since we began 10 years ago.

The class tonight will be the $35,000 Caledon Cup – Phase 2, of the 3 part Caledon Cup. Phase 1 was the speed class held in the grand prix ring yesterday. The class tonight will be run with FEI rules and have ranking points. This class will be 1 round and a jump off. There will be 28 starters and all will compete.

On the course we will see 12 numbered jumps with one double combination, one triple combination, a triple bar, one closed Liverpool, a plank vertical and a short pole vertical. There are 15 efforts that need to be jumped without error to move forward to the jump off. The TA is set at 78 seconds and will not be changed.

Our course designer for the week is Oscar Soberon and we have seen his work earlier last month at Angelstone. The equestrian community is extremely fortunate to have a facility that can provide both indoor and outdoor venues to bring us this unique competition.

Phase 3 will be held on Sunday outdoors in the grand prix ring. The prize money tonight is set at $35,000. We are now ready to walk phase 2 of the Caledon Cup presented by HEP, Aviva and Edge Mutual.

#4 closed Liverpool vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes from #3b on the right rein and a distance of 31m or 101ft. This vertical was the big winner on the evening and splashed down seven times.

#5 vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes from #4 on the left rein with no given distance and kissed the floor three times.

#6 triple bar 1.45/1.80m or 4.9/5.9ft comes on the continuing left rein and no given distance and was not faulted on the evening.

#7 short pole vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes in a straight line from #6 with a distance of 21.30m or 69.9ft and at this point on the course we saw one refusal and three poles meet mother earth.

#8 oxer 1.45/1.55m or 4.9/5.1ft comes on the right turn and away from the in-gate and fell from grace four times.

#9 plank vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes from #8 on the right rein and with a distance of 26.30m or 86.3ft and was never faulted tonight.

#10 narrow oxer 1.49/1.10m or 4.9/3.6ft comes from #9 on the left bend with a distance of 35.20m or 106ft and received one bashing.

#11a vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes on the left rein and received no punishment tonight.

#11b oxer 1.45/1.50m or 4.9/5ft with a distance of 11.20m or 36.6ft from #11a and did receive punishment on two occasions.

#11c vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft with a distance of 7.60m or 24.9ft from #11b and was only faulted one time.

#12 vertical 1.45m or 4.9ft comes at the in-gate on the right rein and no given distance from #11c and not faulted on the night. This was the final fence in the first round.

The final results of the first round will give us eight clean rounds. There was one round of one time fault. The TA was not a test tonight. We had eight rounds of four faults, one round of five faults and five with eight faults. The rest will compete another day. There were no falls and no eliminations but there was one VW. By my count there were faults at 25 verticals and 13 oxers. These stats will be interesting when compared to the grand prix on Sunday. There was a nice crowd on hand for the class and these were great results for the crowd. Oscar made extremely good use of the ring and this led to a very competitive first round. I do not walk the jump off but I will say that the jump off tonight needed a little finer tuning. Good class, good results and I look forward to Phase 3 on Sunday afternoon.

Until then I am Dave Ballard.
