CBC will kick off the equestrian season with coverage of two events from Spruce Meadows this weekend as the venue celebrates its 40th season. A broadcast partner with Spruce Meadows for 23 seasons, CBC will once again carry a full slate of championship show jumping coverage on CBC-TV and online at cbcsports.ca in 2015.
Weekend coverage on CBC begins with the ‘National’ presented by Rolex, including Saturday’s RBC Royal Bank Grand Prix, presented by Rolex at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) and the ATCO Structures and Logistics Cup on Sunday at 2 p.m./2:30 p.m. NT (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT online at cbcsports.ca). Coverage of the CNOOC Nexen Cup Derby will also be available on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. PT) exclusively online at cbcsports.ca.
CBC’s broadcast team for the 2015 season includes host and play-by-play commentator Scott Russell (@SportsWkndScott), analyst Deanna Phelan (@Deanna_Phelan), reporter Brenda Irving (@BrendaCBCSports) and Spruce Meadows’ senior vice president, Ian Allison serving as field-level reporter, providing additional insights into the course, jumps, and horse and rider pairs.
With the announcement of Canada’s team for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games scheduled for June 13th, Canadian riders looking to impress at this weekend’s competition include Olympians Ian Millar, Eric Lamaze, and Tiffany Foster, as well as 21-year-old Ben Asselin. Other notable riders competing at Spruce Meadows this weekend include American Olympians Elizabeth “Beezie” Madden, McLain Ward, and Pan Am Games gold medallist Kent Farrington.
Spruce Meadows is home to some of the world’s best show jumping events and CBC will bring all of the action to Canadians this weekend and throughout the summer and fall with other marquee events including the ‘North American’ (July 4-5) and the ‘Masters’ (Sept. 12-13). CBC will also broadcast events from the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, including events in Aachen, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland in addition to the CP International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows, part of the ‘Masters’ tournament.

CBC-TV’s show jumping coverage will continue next weekend with coverage of the CNOOC Nexen Cup Derby at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT) as part of the network’s CIBC Pan Am Day in Canada broadcast on Saturday, June 13th. The riders who will represent Canada in the Equestrian events at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games will also be announced as part of the CIBC Pan Am Day in Canada broadcast.
