Canadian drivers, Christina Sully, Eugen Hug and Darryl Billing, all represented Canada at the 2014 Bromont International CAI-2*, held June 20–22, in Bromont, QC.
Combined Driving is comprised of three phases— driven dressage, marathon and obstacle-cones—which are scored in penalty points. The final results are determined by the driver with the lowest combined number of penalties throughout all three phases.
Competing in the FEI Single Horse Division, Sully of Elgin, ON and her 14-year-old Canadian Standardbred mare, Deer Park Phoenix, finished in second place overall. The pair earned a score of 66.35 following dressage. In the marathon, Sully and Deer Park Phoenix received 77.64, and on the last day they added 20.91 during cones for a three day total of 164.90.
Winning the FEI Pair Horse Division was Hug of Roxton Pond, QC and his Oldenburg/French Trotter mares— 10-year olds Rosa and Lupina and seven-year-old Lillyfee. Hug was sitting in first with a dressage score of 63.51. He added 65.84 after marathon and 17.39 following the cones for a three phase total of 146.74 for the victory.
Billing, a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team at the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG), finished second in the FEI Four-in Hand. With his geldings, 12-year-old Dutch Warmbloods Victor and Villeroy, and Dutch Harness Horses Sonny, six-years-old, and King, eight-years-old, Billing of Milverton, ON, was second after dressage, 74.77, and scored 180.21 following marathon. He completed the cones with 30.91 and finished with a total score of 310.89.
