Equine Canada has announced that Carmen Marson-Awad will be the new Manager of Marketing and Communications.
“It is with great pleasure that we introduce Carmen Marson-Awad in her new role as Manager, Marketing and Communications. She begins her new position at the Equine Canada office on February 24, 2014. Carmen will bring a depth of knowledge in sport, marketing, communications, media relations, and business development that will prove invaluable to the association and Equine Canada members,” said Michael Arbour Chief Financial Officer/Interim Chief Executive Officer.
A Quebec native, Marson-Awad is a graduate of the Algonquin College Print Media program with over 25 years’ experience in communications, marketing and event management who is highly regarded and respected among her peers.
Her career includes working as a reporter for the Ottawa Citizen, and still has many contacts in the industry across Canada and the US. She was also a Senior Account Executive with CNW Group (formerly Canada NewsWire) for nine years handling business development for commercial news releases and broadcast services, working directly with senior communications and marketing professionals in Federal Government, NGOs, NSOs, Associations and publicly traded companies around the world, and personally generated over $1.5 million in new business while overseeing operations for her bureau.
In addition, she spent eight years as the Executive Director with the Canadian Public Relations Society in Ottawa reporting directly to the President, and working in collaboration with a volunteer Board of Directors. Her depth of industry knowledge, skill sets and work experience will prove to be beneficial to the organization as she takes on a leadership role in her department.
Marson-Awad is passionate about all things equine. She was a competitive Hunter/Jumper equestrian athlete; both her grown children and her grandson ride. Her sport history includes having been the Vice-President for the Nepean Redskins Football Club, and trainer and manager to various competitive soccer clubs locally. She herself was also a competitive gymnast training with Corona Gymnastics Club. Having been involved in athletics most of her life, she strongly believes that participation in sport is a key developer for youth in this country
