Swiss show jumper Steve Guerdat announced on his website that his 17-year-old mare, Jalisca Solier, whom he retired in December, was euthanized on January 26th following a pasture accident.

A statement on Guerdat’s website explained, “While she was quietly grazing, a slip caused an irreparable fracture to her right front. So, we had to make the difficult, but unquestionable decision to put Jalisca Solier to sleep quickly, so that she would not suffer.”

Guerdat was away, competing at CSI Zürich at the time, so he was not able to say good bye. In the statement he said, “You are and you remain one of the most beautiful things that have happened to me in my life and I could never thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. I’ll miss you my princess Lisa, I love you.”

The pair had numerous successes together, including winning Team bronze at the 2008 Olympics, a Team gold at Windsor in 2009 and winning the Rolex Top Ten Final in 2010.
