Three Candidates Nominated for FEI Presidential Election

Nominations for the FEI Presidential election closed at midnight May 1, 2010, and three candidates have been put forward for the post.

 

HRH Princess Haya, who was elected to the FEI Presidency in 2006, has declared that she is seeking a second four-year term to take her through to the 2014 General Assembly. The other two candidates are Sven Holmberg (SWE), the FEI’s current First Vice President, and Henk Rottinghuis (NED),who was elected as a member of the FEI Audit and Compliance Committee at the 2009 General Assembly.

 

The FEI Presidential election will take place at the 2010 FEI General Assembly, which will be held in Chinese Taipei on 5 November. National Federations will vote by secret ballot at the General Assembly. The FEI currently has 133 National Federations. A candidate requires a two-thirds majority to win the election.

 

In 2006 three candidates were declared for the FEI Presidency, marking the first time ever that there had been an election for the post. The three candidates in 2006 were HRH Princess Haya, HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark (DEN) and the then First Vice President Freddy Serpieri (GRE).
