The Ontario Sport Legends Hall of Fame is proud to announce that the Winner of the Syl Apps Award as the Ontario Athlete of the Year 2008 is Eric Lamaze.
Lamaze had an outstanding year in 2008. As a member of the Canadian Olympic Equestrian Team, he won individual Gold and helped his team win Silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He gained the #1 position in the Rolex World Rider Rankings on December 31, 2008. We extend our congratulations to Mr. Eric Lamaze as the 2008 OSLHOF Syl Apps Award Winner.
The Syl Apps Award is emblematic of Ontario’s Athlete of the Year. Named in honour of the former Toronto Maple Leafs captain and Olympic and Commonwealth Games pole vaulter Syl Apps, the award is the first of its kind for the Province of Ontario.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must be Ontario-born or Ontario-based and have made an outstanding and significant contribution to sport during the previous calendar year.
Past winners include Roger Clemens, Mike Weir, Vince Carter and Steve Yzerman.
