EC_Just_Add_Horses_08_copy.jpgOttawa, Ontario—Equine Canada has named Pam Asheton the recipient of the first-ever Equine Canada / Just Add Horses Environment Award.

Asheton is a former riding instructor with the British Horse Society and lives on a ranch outside Cochrane, Alberta. She is a regular trail rider and a backcountry aficionado. Her writing have appeared in Alberta Country, Canadian Cowboy Country, Western Horseman and the Cochrane Eagle.

In her writings, and in particular, her book Alberta Backcountry Equestrian One-Day Trail Guide, Asheton educates her readers on Albertan flora and fauna and the importance of conservation and land stewardship. Asheton’s knowledge and written work help preserve the land for current and future backcountry riders alike.

“For all the riders and my readers mesmerized, fascinated and wanting to learn more, winning this award lets me know that I have done a good job,” said Asheton. “Thanks to the many extraordinary friends, mentors and horses in my life, and to Equine Canada for the opportunity to spread the word.”

This award sees the partnership of Equine Canada and Alex Milne and Associates, makers of Just Add Horses products, and recognizes a member of Equine Canada who practices and promotes outstanding and environmentally-friendly stewardship practices.

At the Equine Canada Annual Awards Gala, on Saturday February 7, 2009, in Ottawa, ON, Asheton was awarded Equine Canada / Just Add Horses Environment Award by Equine Canada president, Al Patterson.
