Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals Inc. was founded in 1992 by Dr. Gordon Chang, who holds a PhD in Physiology and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He has also worked as a postdoctoral fellow for two years in the area of clinical Biochemistry looking at free radicals and antioxidants.
When he founded Omega Alpha, he realized that the majority of products that were being sold did not have a firm scientific basis. As a matter of fact, most of the supplement companies did not have anyone on staff with a proper science background. With his freshly-minted PhD he decided that he wanted to formulate and manufacture supplements that are based on firm scientific principles. He went through the trouble to obtain a pharmaceutical manufacturing licence for Omega Alpha Pharmaceuticals.
Initially, Omega Alpha focused on manufacturing human supplements using ingredients that were well researched with information obtained from the published medical and scientific literature. Around 1999, Omega Alpha launched a line of products for equine use, based on the same scientific principles. There are currently approximately 45 unique equine formulations sold under the Omega Alpha brand which range from supplements such as probiotics, herbal calmers, vitamins, minerals, gut health products, hormonal balancers, airway optimizers and more.
As the years went by, Health Canada has instituted new rules and regulations which govern the production and sales of animal supplements with which Omega Alpha is in full compliance. Omega Alpha has gone above and beyond Health Canada guidelines for quality control, instituting a medicinal herb identification system based on the use of the High Pressure Liquid Chromatography which ensures that each herb is positively identified before use, thus assuring against herb substitution.
Omega Alpha’s latest research product in the equine line is RegenerEQ, which has taken over five years to develop. RegenerEQ has been clinically tested at the University of Prince Edward Island and has been well received and recommended by veterinarians including internal medicine specialist Dr. Meg Miller Turpin in Wellington, Florida. The active principles in RegenerEQ consists of growth factors, immune-stimulating peptides, anti-inflammatory cytokines and other inflammatory-resolving biological components.
RegenerEQ is used to promote gut health, a key component to success in the competitive equine athlete. Over the years, the Omega Alpha line of supplements – human, equine and small pet – has developed a reputation for being highly efficacious. As Dr. Chang says, “Don’t take my word for it, go on the internet and see what other people have to say.”
Omega Alpha products are available to clients worldwide via various distributors.
