mar-20It’s been a great week here in Ocala with the O’Hanlon Eventing crew. Unfortunately, tomorrow I am headed back to school in New York. It’s going to be a rough transition back to the classroom for me. At home I am just getting back into work with my mare who had a foal last spring, so I admit I am not very fit. As soon as I arrived, however, I was back in the tack, riding 2-3 horses everyday. Needless to say I am pretty sore! But it’s a great feeling. The group of horses that Selena has down here are all amazing and such fun rides!

Today I had a lesson on both Thunder and Rummy. Thunder is a very cool guy who I have enjoyed riding very much. We practiced jumping 4 verticals in a circle, making sure we got the right distances and an even 5 strides between each fence. I haven’t jumped in a very long time, but Thunder is a great jumper and gave me a lot of confidence. This is Rummy and Selena schooling the water for the first time. Our friend Lee has given him a lead from her experienced Prelim horse.

Rummy starts cross country

When I had my lesson on Rummy, I worked on trotting over poles, with plenty of walk and halt transitions in between. The goal was a nice, relaxed, steady trot. He was a star and quickly caught on to what I asked! I am amazed at his quiet temperament and how well he is going under saddle. He’s going to turn into a real cool horse.

This week flew by far too fast for me. I’m so happy I decided to come visit and help out for my spring break. A week full of great horses and great friends, what more could you ask for?
