Everybody got ridden in Florida today although ‘rain stopped play’ for a while. Still, it’s really hard to worry about a bit of rain when you are dealing with snow. They all did a light flat work, gradually bringing stiff muscles back into shape after the long two days of standing still. Nobody was complaining and they have all been at Chesterland South on previous years, so everyone finds it easy to settle down.
Here in the far north, the day was cold, but pleasant. The wind has dropped and the temps are not too far from zero. We could still do with a bit more snow to facilitate turnout, three of our paddocks need to have a bit more cover before we want to use them.
Our indoor arena is small, but it is also cosy. Our outdoor arenas are vast and there are two of them so we comfort ourselves with the idea that it’s good for the horses to come indoors and make themselves nice and bendy in the ‘sandbox’ so that they can be super supple when they go back out into the vast spaces again in the spring.
This video is of Benny, the younger (and larger) of the two OTTBs loose in our little arena.
We flirted briefly with the idea of perhaps selling him while he is in Florida, then Selena sent me this video, taken just before she left for Ocala and I decided we will just keep this one for a while and see what he matures into. He is still growing and looks to mature at around 17hh without being in any way particularly gangly at four.
