At 6:30 this morning, Anne Marie, Selena, two dogs (Maizey and Bizzy), three horses (Zephyr, Derg Boru and Foxwood High) set off for Tallahassee and the Red Hills event. It has been a big favourite with us since it first began and I don’t think Selena has ever missed a year riding there. The first time she rode there she was going Training, she progressed up the levels and has been entered in the three star for many years in a row on various mounts.
This time she has a one star horse, Kelly Damp’s Zephyr, a two star horse Megan Wood’s Derg Boru and, of course, her long-term three star partner, John and Judy Rumble’s Foxwood High – known respectively to their friends as Z, King Brian and Woody. It’s a killer entry to have three different horses all doing an FEI three day. Three courses to walk three to four times each, three dressage and show jumping courses to memorize and three trot ups. Let’s hope we have to deal with three prize giving ceremonies!
Selena likes to leave on time. She comes by it honestly. I like to leave ‘early’ This time it paid off. When the got to Red Hills they were the first ones on the show ground. They let the dogs have a good romp and go all three horses worked early on so that they can hang out and enjoy soaking up the atmosphere. Lots to watch as everyone else rolls in. Selena and Anne Marie had time to get themselves well set up in their stalls and post the banners for our wonderful sponsors without whom none of this can even happen. Anne Marie has put up some nice shade to clean tack in comfort.
