Ottawa, ON – The Ontario Young Riders’ Dressage Team won the bronze medal in the Team Competition on July 31 at the 2008 CN North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC), being held at The Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO, July 29–August 3, 2008.

 

Finishing with a Team total score of 4374 was the Ontario Team, made up of Jaimie Holland of Caledon, Amy Jager of Puslinch, Jade Deter of Kemptville and Danielle McKinnon of Aurora.

 

Jager led the team with the highest score of 66.133%, partnered with her 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Jive.

 

Holland contributed a score of 64.400% to the Team total, riding Fleurina, her 10-year-old Westphalian mare, while Deter rode to a score of 63.867% aboard her 11-year-old Westphalian gelding Mastermind. McKinnon scored 63.733% with her 17-year-old Polish Warmblood gelding Noma Tender.

 

“All the members of the team rode extremely well and put in a solid test for the team. It was a great team effort,” noted Chef d’équipe Tina Busse-Irwin. “Our anchor rider, Amy Jager, really pulled through with a great ride which helped secure the bronze medal.”

 

The USA Region 7 Team took Gold with a score of 4417, and USA Region 8 earned Silver, scoring 4395.

 

The Team Championship also acted as the first leg of the Individual competition for both the Junior and Young Rider divisions, with the Individual competition continuing on Friday, August 1, for the Junior Riders, and Saturday, August 2, for the Young Riders.

 

Exclusively for Junior riders, aged 14–18, and Young Riders, 16–21, the NAJYRC gives up and coming riders the opportunity to experience representing their country as a team, and prepares them for future international competition. Featuring the disciplines of Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping and Reining, the 2008 NAJYRC feature competitors from the United States, Canada and Mexico.
