YoungHorseStLazare.jpgSt. Lazare, PQ – The Concours hippique de Pépinière hosted a Jump Canada Young Horse Series event on May 22 in St. Lazare, QC.

Angela Covert-Lawrence of St. Lazare, QC, won the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division riding Candidate du Marquet for owner Emmanuelle Bolduc. They were the only entries in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division to post a clear round and move forward to the jump-off.

“She is a real trier, and she has so much heart,” said Covert-Lawrence, who began riding the eight-year-old grey Belgian Warmblood mare by Canadian River and out of a Randel Z mare this past winter. “She’s a fighter. She is great to work with, but she is a little tiger when she goes in the ring. She is little, she is under 16hh, but she has a big personality in a small package!

“She does not have much experience at this level, but every time out, she has gotten better and better,” continued Covert-Lawrence, who showed the mare in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Young Horse classes during the 2010 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL. “The owners were very excited, and very much appreciated winning the cooler from Jump Canada.”

Placing second place Arise Z, a grey Zangershiede mare by Anima II Z out of a Calando I dam owned and ridden by Francois Lamontagne of St. Eustache, QC. Unfortunately, the pair had the first fence down on the course designed by Anthony D’Ambrosio to end their chances of advancing to the jump-off.

The winner of the Six-Year-Old Division was Nicolas Bayzelon riding Lazer HB, a bay Luxembourg gelding bred in Canada by Haras de Beaupré. Lazer HB, owned by Francois Bayzelon, is by Landslide and out of a Queron dam. Like the winners of the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division, Bayzelon and Lazer HB were the only horse and rider combination to jump clear in the first round and advance to the jump-off.

Francois Lamontagne placed second once again, this time aboard Independence Day 3E, a bay Canadian Warmblood gelding owned by Mudstyle Inc. Independence Day 3E was bred in Canada by KingRidge Stables of King, ON, and is by Polyfax out of an Emilion mare. The pair had the quickest time in the first round, but pulled a rail late in the course to finish with four faults.

Landing in third position was S Class, ridden by Québec’s Mélissandre Lincourt and owned by South Shore Farm of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC. Lincourt and S Class had one rail in the first round of competition. S Class is a chestnut Dutch Warmblood mare by Mermus R out of an Indoctro mare.

The Five-Year-Old Division was won by Empire 181, a grey Hannoverian gelding guided to victory by Paul Halpern of St. Lazare, QC. Empire 181 is owned by Wynbrook Farm and is by Embassu I out of a dam by Foxhunter.

The purpose of the Jump Canada Young Horse Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development. This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. The Jump Canada Young Horse Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.

The 2010 Jump Canada Young Horse Series is truly national in scope with competitions being held from coast to coast. The National Young Horse Finals will take place at the Canadian Show Jumping Tournament held from September 22-26 in Palgrave, ON.
