By all accounts, the Cedar Run Rodeo Weekend was a runaway success, as approximately 4,000 spectators stampeded their way to the park during the two-day (Aug. 27-28) spectacle.

The professional rodeo showcased the talents of cowboys and cowgirls from across Canada and the U.S. and as far away as Brazil, as they competed in events that included bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, team roping and calf roping. Other highlights of the rodeo weekend included a Kids Hour in the rodeo ring and live music from Georgian Bay’s own Southern Comfort, Nicole Scott, the Rockefellers and the Mark Ekins Band.

Cedar Run also used the event to show its support for Canadian troops and their families, presenting a cheque for $6,000 for Camp Maple Leaf, a camp for underprivileged children as well as a place for military families to reconnect following recent deployment. Basic Training troops from the Land Forces Central Area Training Center in Meaford did their part to raise the profile of the Canadian Forces during the event, conducting an exercise using simulated ammunition and explosives. They were also on site all weekend offering vehicle rides to spectators.
