American four-in-hand driver Chester Weber, bronze medalist at this summer’s World Championships in Aachen, Germany, has been provisionally suspended as of September 29 for a Class S1 substance positive result at the CAIO4*-H4 World Cup Qualifier at Windsor (GBR), May 14-17, 2026.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) defines Class S1 substances as anabolic agents, both steroids and non-steroidal drugs, which are prohibited at all times both in and out of competition. Human anti-doping cases are handled for the FEI by the International Testing Agency (ITA). ITA spokesperson Marta Nawrocka commented, “The case is currently ongoing and, at this stage, we cannot provide an estimate as to when a final decision will be available. The duration of anti-doping proceedings depends on the procedural steps in each individual case. The athlete has the right to request the analysis of the B Sample and to provide explanations as part of the results management process.”

She advised that it is important to distinguish the current provisional suspension from any final sanction. “The duration of any period of ineligibility, as well as any consequences for results obtained by the athlete, can only be conclusively determined once the case has been resolved.”

As the proceedings are ongoing, the ITA is not able to provide any further information on the specifics of the case “beyond what has already been made public.”

It is not clear whether any results Weber, 51, attained since mid-May in addition to his medal at the Worlds ‒ including second-place finishes in Windsor and Szilvásvárad, HUN, and a third at Rastede, GER ‒ will be subject to retroactive disqualification. An FEI spokesperson stated, “At this stage, it is too early to speculate on how the results achieved at the FEI Driving World Championships 2026 or at the other FEI Driving World Cup™ qualifiers in which the athlete competed after CAIO4* Windsor will be handled.”
