The Equestrian Company and China Travel Service (CTS) at a press briefing on June 10th gave an update on the latest “Games-Time” ticket sale arrangements for the Olympic Equestrian Events.

Speaking at the briefing, the Chief Executive Officer of the Equestrian Company, Mr Lam Woon-kwong, said, “All of the 40,000-odd tickets for the Equestrian Events allocated to Hong Kong in the first two ticketing phases have been sold.”

“As Hong Kong is riding high with Olympic equestrian enthusiasm, the Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong) of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad has further applied to the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) for more tickets for Hong Kong to promote the Equestrian Events by engaging more public participation.

“Now, about 60,000 ‘Games-Time’ tickets have been allocated to Hong Kong by BOCOG.  With more tickets for sale, it will be more convenient for people wanting to experience the Equestrian Events.” The tickets are not limited to local Hong Kong residents. Foreigners can also purchase the tickets through the CTS website, or from CTS branches.

Games-time tickets are available for sale from June 12. As in the first two ticketing phases, CTS has been appointed as the official ticket agent for the Games-Time tickets for the Equestrian Events. To encourage more public participation, the Equestrian Committee continues to adopt the BOCOG policy and set the ticket prices at affordable levels ranging from HK$58 to HK$544 ($7CDN to $72CDN).

“We are delighted that China’s equestrian team has qualified for all the three disciplines of the Olympic Equestrian Events, and several riders of the Hong Kong equestrian team have achieved the minimum eligibility standard for jumping, which is an historic breakthrough for our country in the Olympic Equestrian Events. As Hong Kong is a co-host city for the Beijing Olympic Games, I am sure many of us will want to be at the competition venues to cheer on our athletes,” Mr Lam said.

Mr Lam also introduced the services and things to note for Equestrian Events spectators at the press briefing.

The spokesman for CTS, Mr Ng Hi-on, said interested persons could purchase the Games-Time tickets at all CTS branches or on its website (www.ctshk.com) on a first-come, first-served basis. For the five final events, tickets will be available only at CTS headquarters in Sheung Wan, and at its Wan Chai, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan and Sha Tin branches.  Each applicant may select a maximum of two tickets for final sessions and 15 tickets per match for every transaction.  For details, please visit the CTS website or call its ticketing hotline: (852) 2998-7080.

Persons who successfully made ticket reservations in the first two ticketing phases and in the Games-Time ticket sales may collect the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Tickets by presenting their Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Ticket Exchange Coupons within a designated period at the CTS branches of their choice upon booking.

“It is a century-old dream of our nation to host the Olympic Games and the preparation of the Equestrian Events has now entered the final stage. We are grateful for the support and advice of the Central Government, BOCOG, the International Olympic Committee and the International Equestrian Federation, and we are confident that we will be able to co-host high-standard and distinguished Equestrian Events,” Mr Lam said.

The Olympic Equestrian Events will be held from August 9 to 21 at Sha Tin and Beas River. There are a total of about 200,000 equestrian tickets for sale in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games tickets have an efficient design full of Olympic flavour, and can be kept a collectibles.
