Canadian show jumper Bianca Lafontaine has added a new horse, Cardenio Junior De Lys, to her string with the support of Ferme De Lys. The Québec-based Hanoverian breeding farm, owned by Lynda Tétreault and Claude Ménard, is proud to support the 25-year-old rider, who is a member of the Fédération équestre internationale (FEI) and competes on the Canadian hunter/jumper equestrian circuit.
Cardenio Junior de Lys, a Hanoverian born in 2011, is by Cardenio / For Edition / Graf Grannus, and was the first foal of the mare SPS for Odessa, 2010 winner of the Herwart von der Decken-Schau, a prestigious German dressage and show jumping competition. “Cardenio is a gentle horse who’s a real pleasure to ride,” Bianca says, adding: “He has natural jumping ability. I’m very touched by the trust Lynda and Claude have placed in me with this sponsorship.”
Bianca Lafontaine first gained attention with a Bronze Medal in Team Jumping at the 2006 North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, along with a Silver Medal in the same competition the following year. She has continued training in the ensuing years, taking part in both jumper and hunter shows. In the summer of 2014, riding the Oldenburg Kannan Lover (Kannan – Latus I – Pilot), Bianca finished fourth in her first-ever FEI-sanctioned 1.50-metre Grand Prix event.
Besides being a professional rider, Bianca Lafontaine is a trainer for South Shore Farm. She is based in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada, in the spring and fall, and in Wellington, Florida, U.S.A., in winter. During the 2014–15 winter season, under the watchful eye of trainer Francis Berger, she will compete in the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF), riding several young horses including the KWPN Cherokee (Cardento – Creol – Orthos).
