Equine Canada and the Canadian Equestrian Team extend our heartfelt condolences to Eric Lamaze and everyone at Torrey Pines Stables on the passing of their beloved Irish Sport Horse gelding Cagney.

Brought to Canada by Doug Henry, the statuesque Irish Sport Horse gelding was born in Ireland in 1980 and was sired by the famous Registered Irish Draught stallion Clover Hill. Bought by Eddie Creed for Lamaze, Cagney was quickly syndicated and later donated to the Canadian Equestrian Team in 1997, at the direction of Creed, to ensure that he continued to compete with Lamaze for Canada.

Paired with Lamaze in 1993 for Lamaze’s second year in the grand prix ring, Cagney guided him on his meteoric rise to Canadian show jumping fame starting with Lamaze’s first appearance as part of the Canadian Show Jumping Team at the Nations’ Cup at the Washington International Horse Show in 1993, where the Team finished in second place.
