Ottawa, ON—Glynis Schultz of Brentwood Bay, BC, led the Canadians competing at the CCI Three Day Event at Rebecca Farm, held July 22-26 in Kalispell, MT, USA. This year, in addition to the HSBC FEI Eventing World Cup Qualifier division, the popular competition hosted CCI 2* and CCI 1* divisions and a CIC 1* horse trials division.
Schultz took fourth place in the CCI 2* division aboard Irish, her own 11-year-old Connemara Thoroughbred cross gelding. Standing in fourth place after dressage on a score of 54.3 penalty points, the pair performed a polished cross country performance which added no faults to their score. Despite one rail down for four faults in the show jumping test, the pair held their fourth place finishing on a final score of 58.3 pp.
“Irish keeps rising to the occasion. It was very hot and I was worried that the heat would affect him, but he was great in all three phases,” said Schultz, who purchased Irish three years ago on the advice of her friend Vicki Davies. “He is so fun to work with. I think we will try some advanced horse trials in the fall.”
Also competing in the CCI 2* division was Rebecca Lee of Bon Accord, AB, and her own Gold Twist, an nine-year-old Oldenburg Thoroughbred cross gelding who finished in sixth place with a final score of 80.2, Sara Sellmer of Kamloops, BC, and her own Lanzelot Z, an 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding, finished in ninth place, and Suzy Elliott who currently resides in Yelm, WA, who rode Jonathan Elliott’s Chauncy, a seven-year-old Thoroughbred, to 10th place overall.
American Robyn Fisher won the CCI 2* division riding Lady Calido with a score of 48.5.
In the CIC 3*-W HSBC FEI Eventing World Cup Qualifier division, Chelan Kozak of South Surrey, BC rode Tasman Sea, an 11-year-old New Zealand Thoroughbred gelding, to a 12th place finish.
Kelly Prather of the United States won the CIC 3*-W division riding Ballinakill Glory with a score of 55.2.
In the CCI 1* division, Young Rider Joelle Baskerville of Calgary, AB, was the highest placed Canadian, finishing fifth, with her eight-year-old Thoroughbred Hungarian Warmblood cross mare Malibu on a score of 66.5. The pair was standing in seventh after dressage, and added only eight show jumping penalties to their final score.
Noel Clark of Cochrane, AB, finished in seventh place riding his seven-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding, Protocol, on a score of 75.82. Olympian Sandra Donnelly and Karen Holz’s Stella, an eight-year-old New Zealand Warmblood mare, finished in 12th place with a score of 87.0. Tricia Dahms of Sherwood Park, AB, and Clark Kent, her seven-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding, earned a score of 90.2 for 13th spot, and junior rider Ariana Schulte of Spruce Grove, AB, and All That Jazz, her 11-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse gelding, rounded out the Canadian riders in 14th place.
The winner of the CCI 1* was American Amy Tryon and Jude’s Law with 46.1.
In the CIC 1* horse trials divisions Brittany Rose of Edmonton, AB, was the top placed Canadian rider with her own Out of the Blue, a 16-year-old Canadian bred Anglo Arab gelding taking the third place ribbon with 79.7. Northern Charger and Barry Tyerman of Penhold, AB, were sixth with 81.9. Erin Hinchiffe of Rollyview Alberta and Nazrullah, her nine-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding, placed eighth. Wrapping-up the Canadian entries was Merel Von Oeveren of Salmon Arm, BC, and Master Plan who placed 11th.
American Tiana Coudray won the CIC 1* division with Regal Promise.
