The pace is set for another great adventure at Cedar Run Horse Park. More than 100 riders are expected at the 5th Annual Cedar Run Hunter Pace, the park’s season finale scheduled for Saturday, September 29, and there’s still time to be part of the action, says co-ordinator Elizabeth McCowan.

“We’ll be accepting registrations up to and including the day of the event,” said McCowan, encouraging riders and spectators alike to come out for the ride. “This is the perfect way to end another spectacular season at the park.”

What makes the event so special is that normal competition rules don’t apply. Instead, a pace rider establishes a respectable course pace at the start of the event which is then kept secret. Riders are grouped together and each group tries to guess – and then match – the secret pace, knowing they will be penalized for being either too fast or too slow.

Riders can choose between Western or English riding styles, jumps are optional and virtually any group has a chance to win, with prizes and ribbons awarded in several different divisions including a first place trophy. Prize sponsors include Dapple Gray, Bridges, Furbelows, Ashanti Coffee, Bluewater Feed Company and The Dam Pub.

“This is considered the social event of the season,” said McCowan, noting it’s the best times of year to enjoy the park’s beautiful trails with their fields, streams and wooded areas.

Members of the public are invited to come on out and cheer Hunter Pace participants on, free of charge. The cost per rider (waived for Cedar Run members) is $75 for adults, $45 for juniors, and $220 for a family of four, including lunch. Extra luncheon tickets are available for $15 per person.
