Eric Lamaze will be Canada’s representative at the 2011 The Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final in Leipzig, GER, at the Leipzig Exhibition Center from April 27–May 1, 2011.
Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, accumulated 44 points throughout the 2010–2011 World Cup qualifying season aboard two horses, Atlete Van T Heike, an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare owned by Artisan Farms, and his Olympic partner, Hickstead, a 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Ashland Stables and Torrey Pines Stable.
Riding Hickstead, Lamaze finished second in the €200,000 Rolex World Cup Grand Prix held Sunday, December 12, at CSI5*-W Geneva in Geneva, SUI for 17 World Cup points and finished third in the $100,000 CN Performance Grand Prix during the CSI4*-W Spruce Meadows “Continental” tournament in Calgary, AB, to also earn 17 World Cup points. Riding Atlete Van T Heike in the $231,000 WEF World Cup Qualifier during CSI4*-W WEF 9 in Wellington, FL, Lamaze also qualified that horse for the World Cup Final.
Competitors from 14 qualifying leagues will attend the 2011 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final. The first leg of competition will be a speed class on Thursday, April 28. The riders will carry their scores forward to Friday’s competition, which is Table A with a timed jump off. The top two-thirds of the competitors will then move forward to Sunday’s two-round Final, where the 2011 Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final champion will be decided.
In addition to hosting The Rolex FEI World Cup™ Final, Leipzig will be hosting a CSI2* for competitors aged 16–26, called the European Youngster (EY) Cup. For the first time, Canada will be sending a representative. David Arcand, 21, of Mont Royal, QC, earned a spot at the EY Cup by finishing third overall in the Artisan Farms Young Rider Series, which consisted of three $15,000 Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix classes and the Artisan Farms $20,000 Young Rider Team competition held during the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.
The EY Cup consists of speed rounds on Wednesday, April 27, and Thursday, April 28, with the Finale being a Table A with a timed jump-off on Friday, April 29.
As Arcand’s horse Santos Utopia was recently sold, he will be riding Catwalk 19, an eight-year-old Holstiener owned by Stall Tjeert Rijkens.
“I am very honoured that Stall Tjeert Rijkens is lending me Catwalk 19,” said Arcand. “He is a very nice young horse and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to ride him at this prestigious competition. This will be my first time competing in Europe and it is a very exciting opportunity.”
