Ottawa, ON—Dressage Canada is pleased to announce the formation of a new committee dedicated to promoting the pursuits of young high performance athletes.

The DC Youth High Performance Committee (YHPC) is responsible for horse/rider combinations competing in the following FEI divisions FEI Children, FEI Pony, FEI Junior, and FEI Young Rider.

Co-chaired by Ali Buchanan and Ruth Koch, the committee members include Christina Duncan, Roz Farber, Pia Fortmuller (Youth Rider rep.), Jaimie Irwin (Liaison rep. to Domestic Development), Chrystal Kroetch, Amy McIlwham (Youth Rider rep.), Gillian Sutherland, Sharon Wilson and Chris von Martels.

The YHPC was established in recognition of the need for a committee dedicated to the development and management of all FEI Youth High Performance riders, horses and programs.

“The youth dressage riders in Canada have demonstrated excellent results at FEI International  competitions in 2006 and 2007, bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals in both team and individual competitions at the FEI North American Junior and Young Riders’ Championships and FEI Young Rider World Cup Finals,” notes Ali Buchanan, co-chair of the YHPC. “The established programs for the dressage youth in Canada have been self supported by dedicated individuals. The YHPC committee goal will be to assist the established programs, enhance, manage and create new programs through fundraising initiatives. The youth dressage athletes are the future for dressage in Canada, and the YHPC is dedicated to the development of these future Olympic dressage athletes.”
