Changes to Equine Canada Bylaws Accepted

Equine Canada has announced a positive voting outcome for their proposed bylaws and articles of continuance. The released the following statement to members on September 26, 2015:

Equine Canada is pleased to inform you that the proposed By-laws and Articles of Continuance have been officially accepted by the EC membership.

After tallying votes cast during the online voting window and in-person at the EC General Meeting on Sept. 26, 2015 in Ottawa, ON, it has been confirmed that the required two-thirds majority cast their vote in favour of the proposed By-laws and Articles of Continuance.

“The positive By-law outcome is an important step for EC to come into compliance with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act (CNCA), which came into force on Oct. 17, 2011,” said EC CEO, Eva Havaris.

“The CNCA provided federal not-for-profits the ability to modernize their governance structures. EC took this opportunity to perform an extensive consultation and collaborative process with key partners and stakeholder groups,” continued Havaris. “The end result was a collective belief that these By-laws and Articles of Continuance represent a framework from which EC can be repositioned as a leading equestrian and equine federation, premised on our core values of respect, diversity, inclusivity, service, excellence, and volunteerism.”

President of EC, Al Patterson spoke to some of the specific benefits of implementing the new By-laws and Articles of Continuance, stating, “Through these By-laws, EC has the means to become a more effective and efficient federation. A few examples of significant positive changes include a competency-based Board of Directors that is voted in entirely by the membership to ensure a high degree of accountability to the voting members, and a leaner and more productive governance model that is volunteer-led and staff-driven.”
