The Canadian Hanoverian Society has now been formed as the national club representing Hanoverian breeders in Canada.  The CHS has also recently been accepted as a member of Equine Canada’s Breed and Industry Council. 

The chairman of the CHS is Michael Boyd and the other two executive members are Ferdinand Haupt, President of the Hanoverian Breeders’ Club of Eastern Canada, and Mr. Albert Kley representing the Hanoverian Breeding Club of Western Canada.  As well Mr. Fritz Floto has been elected a lifetime member and honorary chairman of the CHS.

The CHS is a regional breeders’ club of the Verband Hannoveraner and all Canadian Hanoverian breeders are and continue to be members of the German Verband which controls the breeding of Hanoverians and issues registration papers to Canadian Hanoverian breeders.”

At the annual elite Hanoverian foal auction held August 22-24 in Verden, Germany a record price of $200,000 Cdn (120,000 Euro) was set by the colt Quasar (Quaterback/Wolkentanz I). The Quaterback/Wolkentanz I son (breeder: Erika Lütjen, Grasberg/county of Osterholz-Scharmbeck), purchased by a stallion holder from a French stud farm, will grow up as stallion in Lower Saxony.

All 316 foals offered were sold over the three day auction at an average price of just over $13,000 Cdn. In addition, all 35 broodmares up for auction were also sold at an average price of over $17,340 Cdn
