The Bromont Three-Day Event, The Todd Sandler Challenge, will celebrate its 25th anniversary from June 9 to 12, 2011, in Bromont, Quebec.
The Bromont Three-Day Event will offer more than $30,000 in prize money in divisions ranging from the grass roots training level up to the CCI*** international division. Organizers are expecting over 150 horses to compete in the CCI***, CCI**, CCI*, CCIYJ* and Open Training divisions and are already approaching maximum capacity. Course designer Derek Di Grazia of the United States, who is also the newly-appointed course designer for April’s Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, will once again set the cross-country tracks. Since 2009, Di Grazia has been receiving rave reviews for his course designs in the picturesque Bromont Olympic Horse Park.
Last year’s CCI*** competition for the ‘Todd Sandler Perpetual Trophy,’ won by Will Coleman of Gordonsville, Virginia, riding Nevada Bay, was the final selection trial for both Canadian and American riders hoping to represent their respective countries at the 2010 World Equestrian Games where Canada claimed the Team Silver medal.
This year, riders in the CCI*** division will be hoping to catch the eye of selection committees for the upcoming 2011 Pan American Games and, looking further ahead, the 2012 London Olympic Games. Younger competitors in the CCI* and CCI** divisions will be striving to secure a spot at the annual North American Junior and Young Riders’ Championship in July in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Bromont Organizing Committee is also pleased to announce that the 2011 competition marks the first time the event will be included in the PRO Tour Series. The Professional Riders Organization (PRO) is a non-profit organization comprised of accomplished event riders who are dedicated to promoting the sport and to advocating safety for horses and riders. Founding member and frequent Bromont competitor, Buck Davidson, says, “The PRO Tour Series is a great advancement that allows event riders to introduce our exciting sport to a whole new audience.”
In addition to world-class competition, the Bromont Three Day Event will be the location of the third annual, and enormously popular, Red & White Welcome Reception hosted by the Canadian Eventing Committee. Held on the competition grounds, the Red & White Welcome Reception will take place on Friday, June 10, for competitors, sponsors, volunteers and officials.
Alan Shinton, who will also be hosting a champagne reception, is the generous title sponsor of the Alan Shinton Team Challenge. This friendly Team Challenge offers $10,000 in total prize money to teams comprised of riders from all divisions and levels and is a great way to foster camaraderie and a sense of mentorship throughout the competition.
The Bromont Olympic site continues to evolve, and numerous upgrades are being made as Bromont prepares to bid for the 2018 World Equestrian Games and further establishes itself as a world-class equestrian facility.
