Walter Pady of Rosemont, ON, died in hospital as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 near 27 in Schomberg, ON, on the afternoon of August 9. Pady, 77, was driving a VW Beetle which crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a Chevy Silverado hauling a horse trailer. The female driver of the pickup was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The horse trailer was empty at the time of the accident. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.
Pady was a member of Canada’s first Olympic equestrian team (three-day eventing) in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was chair of the Canadian Jumping Team for ten years, and chair of the Canadian Equestrian Team in the 1980s. In the 90s, he served as chair of the Royal Horse Show, followed by a three-year term as CEO of the Royal Winter Fair.
Retired, Pady continued to ride with the Eglinton and Caledon Hunt. He was a retired Master of Foxhounds from the Toronto North York Hunt, and was the Master of Foxhounds Association Canada District representative for six years.
Walter leaves behind his wife Jane and his children, Michelle, Angus, Ian and Bryan (Heather); his stepsons, Jacques (Sue) and Palmer (Melissa); his siblings Eleanor, Jack (Audrey) and David (Sandra); his grandchildren, Dennis, Marsha, Devon, Alex and Owen; and his step-grandchildren, Corson and Carly.
