Equine Canada (EC) is pleased to welcome Mike Mouat, CPA, CGA, to the new position of Commercial Director.
Mouat is a Chartered Professional Accountant with a diverse background that includes experience in communications and finance in the advertising, media and consumer goods industries. He brings dynamic leadership skills, and the proven ability to develop efficient and cohesive teams to this new role at EC.
Mouat’s broad professional accounting experience includes working as a member of the senior management teams of such industry leaders as ArcelorMittal, CapsCanada and Diageo.
Previous to becoming an accountant Mouat, a passionate sports enthusiast and competitive athlete through high school, was a sports reporter who worked for The Hockey News and Thomson Reuters. Mouat’s work has been published in print and by online media outlets, and he was also a contributor to the book, The Pursuit of Hockeyness (99 Things Every Hockey Fan Has to Do Before They Die).

Mike brings key skills and experience to direct these initiatives and spearhead other commercial and business development activities for EC.”
In his new role as Commercial Director, Mouat’s mandate will include:
- Delivering first in class service to the equine community in Canada.
- Extending the reach of EC through various media channels to better deliver the interesting and inspiring stories within our community to a greater audience.
- Developing and executing a strategic growth strategy with an emphasis on building significant corporate partner relationships.
- Capitalizing on the enthusiasm surrounding the rebranding of EC to enhance recognition and engagement.
- Leveraging the current EC properties and developing new opportunities to enhance the marketability of equestrian sport and industry to the benefit of the entire community.
“This new role is a great opportunity for me to return to sports and share my experience in communications and business as Equine Canada embarks on an invigorating process to strengthen its impact and extend its reach in servicing and promoting equestrian sport and industry in Canada,” said Mouat, who holds an Honours Business Commerce Degree, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Windsor. “I’m looking forward to joining and contributing to this strong team of high performing professionals during this exciting transformation.”
Mouat officially took up his post as Commercial Director, based at the EC national office in Ottawa, ON, on June 6, 2016.
