A group of researchers, including veterinarians and riders, affiliated with the University of Bern in Switzerland, are studying collapse and sudden death in horses. Their goal is to learn more about what causes these episodes in horses who have died during exercise, in order to develop preventative measures.
They are currently collecting data through online surveys for veterinarians and riders/trainers. They ask that anyone who has ridden, trained or treated a horse that has collapsed or died during exercise fill in a questionnaire for each case. Names of people and horses will remain confidential.
