Finnish rider Nina Fagerstrom piloted her mount Flower to a first place finish in the Albion Golf Carts $33,000 FEI Open Welcome class, in her first ever appearance at Angelstone Tournaments.
The field of 23 horses competed over course designer Oscar Soberon’s technical 1.45 track, with only three managing to jump double clear.
Hugh Graham, also known as the Kingridge King, and Airborne gave Fagerstrom a run for their money; just missing out on the winning jump off time, by .24 seconds.
Fagerstrom said she really enjoyed her time in the Angelstone stadium. “Angelstone really impresses me. It offers riders FEI classes and has a real European feel to the competition. The footing was excellent to jump on and ‘Flower’ was really comfortable on it.”
Flower and Nina are new to the higher level classes. “Its the first season for us doing Grand Prix classes, she has two foals on the ground and started her training really late. I think she’s really special, she still needs more experience but she is really a fighter and I think she will do great things.”
Russia’s Liubov Kochetova was the third rider to round out the jump off aboard Wilford II. Her second mount, Balou de Reventon jumped the difficult course well with just a time fault and finished fourth overall.
