Peter Barry of Dunham, QC and Kilrodan Abbott competed against a large contingent of international competitors finishing 15th in the CIC3* division of the Plantation Field Horse Trials held in Unionville, PA. Barry and Kilrodan Abbott, his own and Susan and Dylan Barry’s 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding sired by Clover Brigade, started the competition earning 61.8 penalties in dressage. Four faults in show jumping gave them a score of 65.8 moving them up the scoreboard from 34th into 28th place. A clear ride with 4.8 time penalties over cross-country moved the pair up the leaderboard again into 15th spot finishing the competition on a final score of 70.6.
In the CIC2* division, Colleen Loach of Dunham, QC and Qorry Blue D’Argouges, Peter Barry’s nine year-old Selle Francaise gelding sired by Mr. Blue, opened the competition earning 40.6 penalties in their dressage test placing them 2nd out of 70 competitors. Show jumping saw an unlucky rail which add four faults to their score for 44.6 dropping them from second to third place, which is where the pair finished after a foot perfect cross-country performance.
“I was thrilled with Qorry’s dressage, it was our best to date, as a team,” commented Loach. “It was a tough show jumping course and although he jumped very well I looked for my turn too early going over a plank and unfortunately had a costly rail!
“Cross country was great! It was a very fair course, time was the biggest issue. Qorry is not usually a very fast horse but I feel I made smart turns and kept a steady rhythm allowing us to finish well within the time.
“I feel like every time we go out, Qorry and I become more of a team and he keeps getting better and better. I am very grateful to Peter and Susan Barry for giving me the ride on this lovely, talented horse.”
Also in CIC 2* division, Callie Evans of Reaboro, ON rode Glendening Avis, her eight-year-old Canadian Sport Horse mare sired by Ferrari GS, to eighth place on score of 56.3 penalties. The strongest move up the scoreboard was by Holly Jacks of Orangeville, ON and More Inspiration, her eight-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding sired by Inspired Prospect, who rose from 40th after dressage to finish in 10th place with 57.5 after going faultless over course in both show jumping and cross-country. Loach came in for 12th on her second mount, Freespirit, Peter Barry’s Canadian bred mare sired by Freedom Z, on a final score of 59.4.
