Jump Canada is pleased to announce that Terrance ‘Torchy’ Millar has agreed to remain in his current role as Chair of the Jump Canada High Performance Committee for a further two years. Effective immediately, Torchy Millar and Mark Laskin have been appointed as Co-chef d’equipes of the Canadian Show Jumping Team.
Torchy has been the Chair of Jump Canada’s High Performance Committee since 2004, leading Canada to numerous victories in Nations’ Cup competitions. Torchy was also the chef d’equipe when Canada won unprecedented Team Silver and Individual Gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Mark Laskin, who rode on many Nations’ Cup teams for Canada, has assisted Torchy in his role for the last two years. Both Mark and Torchy are enthusiastic about the new structure, as they feel that it will give the High Performance Committee better coverage of the country as a whole. Mark resides in Western Canada while Torchy is in the East, allowing them to share country-wide perspectives.
Mark Laskin will continue to assist Torchy in his role as Chair of High Performance. The next major event for the new Co-chefs will be at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, this fall. They are also preparing for the $350,000 BMO Nations’ Cup at Spruce Meadows as well as for the Spanish Tour taking place in September, where Canada will field Nations’ Cup teams in Gijon as well as in the FEI Promotional League Final in Barcelona.
