Coriana van Klapscheut, formerly owned by Artisan Farms and ridden by 2008 Olympic Show Jumping Champion Eric Lamaze, has been sold to Pilar Cordon of Spain.
Partnered with the 2002 Belgian Warmblood mare (Darco x Heartbreaker), Lamaze has enjoyed great success internationally over the past four seasons. Having won the Six and Seven-Year-Old Young Horse Final at CSI5* Valkenswaard, NED, in 2009, Lamaze and Coriana van Klapscheut went on to form an incredible partnership that saw them claim grand prix events in Wellington (USA), Maastricht (NED), Paris (FRA), Valencia (ESP), La Baule (FRA), and Rotterdam (NED).
At home in Canada, at Calgary’s famed Spruce Meadows venue, Lamaze and Coriana van Klapscheut won nine major titles, including the $80,000 Suncor Winning Round at the 2011 CSIO5* Spruce Meadows “Masters” tournament and the $80,000 TD Cup at the 2012 CSI5* Spruce Meadows “North American” tournament.
Coriana van Klapscheut was also Lamaze’s mount for the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara (MEX), before placing second in the €200,000 Rolex Top 10 Final held at the 2011 CSI5* Paris Gucci Masters in France. Lamaze and Coriana van Klapscheut also competed at the 2012 World Cup Final in ‘s-Hertogenbocsh (NED), placing 11th overall.
“I am very pleased that Coriana is going to Pilar,” said Lamaze, noting that Cordon has ridden the horse in the past when he has had scheduling conflicts. “She has ridden the horse numerous times and has done a good job with her. It was a good match from the time she first rode her.”
When Lamaze announced that he was taking a short hiatus from the sport in September, he handed Coriana’s reins over to Cordon for the indoor circuit. The match proved so successful that Cordon opted to buy the mare.
“Having Coriana is going to be very helpful to Pilar; she is such a competitive horse in every type of class, and will help Pilar get ahead in the world rankings,” said Lamaze. “The addition of Coriana will also help relieve the pressure on Pilar’s current string, sharing the work with her main horses. We couldn’t be happier with where she is going.”
Lamaze continued, “Having competed around the world and been a great competitor, Coriana played a huge role in achieving my number one ranking in the Rolex Rider Rankings. While the sale of Coriana closes a chapter from the past, we are looking forward to opening a new chapter with young horses.”
Artisan Farms recently purchased Rosana du Park, a 2005 bay selle francais mare (Kannan x Quinine de Livoye) and Big Smile, a 2006 grey Westphalian mare (Cartano x Hors de la Loi II) for Lamaze to campaign. Both horses have successfully competed in FEI-sanctioned young horse competitions in Europe. Purchased from Gilbert De Roock of Belgium, Rosana du Park and Big Smile are currently in Lamaze’s training program in Wellington, FL.
“It was difficult, but we made the decision to sell Coriana and invest in some young horses and rebuild a top string,” explained Lamaze. “I am especially happy that she is going to Pilar as I am working closely with her partner and coach, Gilbert De Roock in Belgium, on finding new horses and rebuilding my string.”
Lamaze plans to return to competition at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival running January 9 through March 31 in Wellington, FL.
Based in Vrasene, Belgium, and Wellington, Florida, Artisan Farms supports Olympian Tiffany Foster as well as Lamaze. Andy Ziegler, who owns Artisan Farms with his wife, Carlene, also competes, as does their daughter, Caitlin, 17. Artisan Farms is the presenting sponsor of the Young Riders Grand Prix Series, now in its third year, at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.
