Under sunny skies, the first day of competition at the Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships (CIEC), a sanctioned Equine Canada competition happening September 21-23, was held in Bromont and Blainville, QC. Senior and junior riders competed for top honours in the disciplines dressage, jumping and reining.
At the lovely Parc Equestre de Bromont in Bromont, QC, the dressage competition started with 25 participants riding the level 1 test 2. The class was won by Tiffany Hamilton of Saint John, NB, riding Ducati to a score of 71.081%. Second place was awarded to Abbey Maclellan of Pownal, PEI, who earned a score of 69.459% riding Encore, while third place went to Keirstan MacDonald of Pictou, NS, and Ka Moro with 67.297%.

Riding a 1.10m course designed by Nova Scotia’s Sandra Conrad also at Bromont, 29 riders set their sights on the top spot, but only Alexandre Gonzalez of Val David, QC, riding Allégria was the winner-posting a double clear effort and stopping the jump-off clock in a time of 31.69 seconds. Also double clear, but a fraction slower, at 31.77 seconds, was Pearl MacGregor of Hunter River, PEI, riding Feruzi for second place. Third place was awarded to Helen Chambers of Oakville, ON riding Utopia, also double clear in a time of 33.27 seconds.

The Reining portion of the competition was held in Blainville, QC, and the class was split in to junior and senior divisions. In the junior class, there was a tie for first place. Both riders, Raphaël Bourdeau of Napierville, QC, riding Holy Tag Star and Marjorie Loranger of Saint Paul, QC, riding Bar Olena Chick, earned a of 137.50 for their pattern. Third place went to Kaleigh Bennicke of Shelburne, NS riding Genetic Jewel with 131.00.

The Senior Reining division was won by Stéphanie Briggs of St Télesphore, QC, with a fantastic score of 142, riding Dunit N Starlight. Second place was awarded to Lesley Higgins-Elchuck of Trenton, NS, riding Sumac Up Top with a score of 138, while third place went to Laurianne Gagnon-Duval of Brossard, QC, riding Sumac Strikes Gold with 137.50.
