Renee Hicks, one of Canada’s top Polocrosse players, has been invited to join the U.S. Junior Polocrosse Team for a series of test matches in South Africa. Matches will be held near Durban, June 6-7, and outside Johannesburg, June 13-14 The South African teams are amongst the best Polocrosse players in the world – the U.S. team will have a great, competitive match.
Growing up with horses, Hicks displays a great love for them and rides at every opportunity. She has been involved in Pony Club, trail riding, hunts, and of course, Polocrosse. In 2007, she competed in Australia for two months and has traveled to the U.S. many times prior to going to Texas to work and to improve her skills with their extended season.
Polocrosse is not unlike hockey on a horse. A team of three plays on a field with lacrosse-like sticks and a soft ball that can be bounced and passed between players. At higher levels, the play is fast, intense and competitive. Strong ball handling and horsemanship skills are required; the horse must be fit and agile. www.polocrossecanada.com
Hicks is an Oilfields graduate and has lived in the Millarville area all of her life. Anyone who has been on the field with her knows she is highly competitive with great team spirit; her sportsmanship is second to none. We wish she and her team mates all the best in South Africa.
