Equine Canada has announced the athletes who will represent Team Canada in the Artisan Farms Under 25 Team Event Grand Prix, taking place Feb. 5, 2016 as part of the CSI 3* Adequan Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) Week 3 in Wellington, FL.
The Canadian team will include the following athletes:
Name / Hometown / Horse / Owner
Ben Asselin / Calgary, AB / Wahrhaftige CR / Spruce Meadows Ltd.
Sarah Bagworth / Toronto, ON / Goldfinger VD Hengstenpoel / Sarah Bagworth
Quincy Hayes / Aurora, ON / Calgary 56 / Quincy Hayes
Sarah Johnstone / Collingwood, ON / Bolocia / Johnstone Stables Ltd. and L.A. Morris
The Chef d’Équipe for the team will be Jump Canada Young Rider Development Program Advisor, Beth Underhill of Schomberg, ON.
Part of a series of classes targeting up-and-coming athletes from around the world during the WEF circuit, the Artisan Farms Under 25 Team Event Grand Prix will take place at night under the lights, and provide the next generation of athletes with the opportunity to gain experience competing as a team, a relatively rare opportunity in equestrian sport.
The Under 25 Team Event will consist of two rounds, and follow FEI Nations’ Cup rules. Teams will be made up of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of four (4) members. Teams of four athletes will have a “drop score” advantage, where the score of the team member who incurs the most faults will not be counted toward the overall team score. Results will be based on the lowest number of team total faults over the two rounds. Should there be two or more teams tied for faults after the second round, time will be used to break the tie.
