Calgary, Alberta – The Management of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping is pleased at this time to announce that the Rocky Mountain Classic II has been chosen to host the FEI Children’s Jumping Western Qualifier on August 25 – 29, 2010. The Eastern Qualifier will be held on August 18-22 at the National Tournament in Ontario. Junior athletes will be competing for a chance to represent Canada at the FEI Children’s Finals in Doha, Quatar later in the year.

This is the second consecutive year that RMSJ has been selected to host a regional qualifier. Albertan’s were very excited to see local rider Georgia Young, coached by Gail Greenough, represent Canada at the finals in Abu Dhabi last year.

Just a few weeks ago, RMSJ learned that both the Rocky Mountain Classic I (Aug 18-22) and Classic II (Aug 25-29) will be CSI 2* sanctioned. Both weeks of competition will feature a $50,000 Grand Prix held on Saturday.  In addition to prize money, competitors in the CSI2* events will also gain valuable points towards the FEI Rolex World Rider Rankings.

“In addition to the CSI 2* status this year, we are ecstatic to be hosting the FEI Children’s Qualifier. Bringing more FEI-sanctioned competition to western Canada will help our riders to further advance and gain recognition internationally,” said show organized John Anderson. “In today’s increasingly competitive environment, the opportunity to compete under FEI rules and earn points towards the world rankings is a huge incentive for riders.

“We have been working hard to develop our facility over the past decade, and the time has come to raise the bar and take things to the next level by hosting international FEI competitions. Upgrading our events to CSI status will allow us to continue to grow and increase our profile internationally, which can only help us to develop further in the future.”

Rocky Mountain Show Jumping hosts its tournaments at Anderson Ranch in Calgary’s south end, a world-class facility featuring permanent stabling for 300 horses with a main competition grass grand prix field complete with natural obstacles.
