Course designer, Anthony D’Ambrosio (USA), set a difficult test for today’s 1.30 m Gibsons Cup. With 26 entries making the effort only 7 were up to the challenge, moving onto the jump-off round.
Twists and turns seemed to be D’Ambrosio’s theme tonight with the jump-off course being no different. Horse/rider combinations were being asked not only to be fast and clear but accurate and in control. Clearing the jump-off course wasn’t easy and after the first four in had a rail each it looked like the fastest of the fours might win.
Leave it to one of the youngsters to remain composed under pressure. Jasmine Wiggins rode in on Little Milton and stayed cool as she took her time around the course. Finishing in 34 seconds flat the Okotoks native was clear.
The next two in tried to follow suit but an early rail cost Sergey Zayika (CAN) a chance at victory and Femke Van Den Bosch (CAN) just couldn’t push Timebreaker to be any quicker, finishing .77 seconds slower than Wiggins.
