Horse Sport staff | .
On the morning of December 8, two barns at Perrly Welsh Farm, a third-generation family farm in Danville, QC owned by Annie Demers, were destroyed in a fire. Annie and her daughters managed to save eight of 13 beloved horses, but five perished in the fire. The flames also destroyed their barn that housed 50 milk cows – their primary source of livelihood.
Demers is a well-known Welsh Cob breeder who is often seen showing her ponies in the breeding classes at The Royal Horse Show. She is also a member of several horse associations and has dedicated more than 30 years to the equestrian industry.
A GoFundMe has been organized by Julie-Ann Logan, who remarked, “Annie would never ask for help herself. She has always been the one giving, not receiving, but today, she needs the community’s support to rebuild.” The goal is $30K, which will be used to:
- Rebuild the barns and structures lost in the fire.
- Provide care and shelter for the surviving animals.
- Replace essential equipment and supplies necessary to restart operations.
- Recover from the emotional and financial devastation caused by the loss of 5 horses, 50 milk cows, and the farm itself.
